Introduction to SBS

Shanghai Business School (SBS) is a public application-oriented undergraduate institution of higher education with a distinctive focus on business studies. The school has adhered to a “business-rooted and application-centered” education philosophy, and upheld the school motto of “strive for virtue and erudition, devote to economic prosperity and social responsibility”. The school is devoted to developing “applied, innovative, and international” school-running features, cultivating high-quality application-oriented business talents with professional attainment, practical ability, innovative spirit, international view, and a strong sense of social responsibility, and building a high-level application-oriented business school. Currently, the school boasts nearly 8,000 full-time students and has a total of 787 teaching and administrative staff members, including one expert enjoying special government subsidy from the State Council, two teachers elected as members of the Ministry of Education's Steering Committee on Higher Educational Institutions, one “Leading Talent in Shanghai”, and ten winners of the Shanghai Municipal-level Outstanding Teacher Award and the Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Award. It has offered 30 regular undergraduate specialties for 2023. To be specific, its business administration, hospitality management, e-commerce, international economics and trade, logistics management are national-level first-class undergraduate specialties; its finance, computer science and technology, marketing, business economics, food quality and safety, information management and information system, accounting, and tourism management are Shanghai municipal-level first-class undergraduate specialties; its taxation and eight other specialties are application-oriented undergraduate experimental specialties in institutions of higher learning under Shanghai municipality; its business administration, hospitality management, e-commerce, and marketing have passed ACBSP international certification, realizing the full coverage of new liberal arts, engineering and agricultural projects of the Ministry of Education. For the past five years, the students of SBS have won more than 1,100 national awards in the National Selection Competition for the WorldSkills Competition, the “Challenge Cup”, and many other disciplinary (specialty) competitions. Moreover, SBS has a stable graduate employment rate of above 96%.

By continuously deepening the connotations of discipline construction, the school aims to accelerate disciplinary special zone construction and create a business discipline system based on applied economics and business administration and characterized by interdisciplinary coordinated development. So far, the school has two master’s degree programs in tourism management and international business. Over the past five years, the school has undertaken more than 70 scientific research projects at or above the provincial or ministerial level (subsidized by the National Social Science Foundation of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Science Fund, and so forth), and won 10 provincial or ministerial-level scientific research awards, including Shanghai Municipality Research Achievements Award for Decision-making Consultation.

Focusing on national and local strategic demands and major industrial demands, the school has deepened its comprehensive strategic cooperation with Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and launched a series of commercial (business) application research and consultation services. It has also developed multiple municipal-level scientific research bases and platforms, such as Shanghai Institute of Commercial Development, University Think Tank of Shanghai, Shanghai Social Science Innovative Research Base, Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at Universities of Shanghai, and University Knowledge Service Platform of Shanghai. It has also received replies from provincial and ministerial leaders concerning over 70 research achievements for business decision-making consultation in the past five years. The MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai), established by the Ministry of Commerce at SBS, has offered training to a cumulative total of 5,700 business officials from more than 100 countries (regions) worldwide.

Clinging to the principle of open schooling, the school never ceases to enhance its international reputation and influence. For the purpose of introducing high-quality business education resources, it has jointly set up the College of Shanghai Lausanne Hospitality Management (officially approved by the Ministry of Education in May 2021) with EHL, making a substantial breakthrough in Sino-foreign cooperative school running. It has successively launched cooperation and exchanges with nearly 90 research institutions and institutions of higher learning in the US, the UK, Australia, and many other countries and regions, initiated the founding of the “Belt and Road” International Business Education Alliance, led the formation of the International Alliance of High-end Business Think Tanks, and established its Overseas Education Base in Central and Eastern Europe.


Introduction to Short-Term Study Tour Program

The Short-Term Study Tour Program is a customized course exclusively designed by Shanghai Business School for overseas students. The program offers Chinese language and cultural courses, aiming to assist students in developing fundamental Chinese communication skills, and these courses also help students get familiar with the basic knowledge of China’s history, traditional culture, etc. In addition, the program offers various activities, including Chinese cultural experiences and guided tours of Shanghai City, aiming at deepening students’ understanding of Shanghai’s unique culture and rich Chinese traditions. By participating in the Short-Term Study Tour Program, students will have the opportunity to expand their cross-cultural communication skills, enhance their understanding of China, and establish close ties with Shanghai Business School. 


Program’s Characteristics and Advantages

【Interactive Teaching】

The program emphasizes interactive teaching approach, and adopts interactive communication and joint discussion between teachers and students in the classroom to produce a good learning effect. Specifically, the program uses situational, inductive, and exploratory interactions to enable students to develop a strong interest in learning and actively participate in classroom teaching.


【Quality Assurance】

SBS is committed to open education and has been working to enhance its international reputation and influence. By introducing high-quality resources in business education, the university has made significant progress in international cooperation. SBS has carried out cooperation and exchanges with more than 100 well-known overseas universities and research institutions. It initiated the establishment of the Belt and Road International Business Education Alliance and the International High-end Business Think Tank Alliance, and established an overseas education base in Central and Eastern Europe. The school first started to enroll international students in 2007, and so far it has enrolled international students from more than 70 countries and regions, including the US, Germany, Russia, Australia, the Netherlands, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and South Korea. The forms of international education are increasingly diversified and the teaching staff have rich experience in international education.


【Off-Campus Visits】

Visits to famous landmarks, ancient towns, historical museums, and other attractions within Shanghai will be arranged, which provides an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the local customs and traditions in Shanghai, and enhances one’s comprehension of the historical and cultural aspects of both Shanghai and China.


【Cultural Exchanges】

Chinese traditional culture experience courses will be scheduled to learn about traditional Chinese history and experience ancient China’s charm and culture. Visits to Chinese families will be arranged to experience daily life of Chinese families and learn about the life of Chinese people (subject to actual situation).

【Program Authority】

Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a certificate of completion from College of International Education, Shanghai Business School.

Application Requirements

1. Aged between 16 and 35, in good physical and mental health, and holding a valid foreign passport (applicants under 18 years old must provide proof of overseas guardianship).

2. Have a certain level of proficiency in English and be able to communicate effectively (If students have a basic foundation in Chinese and have reached HSK Level 3 or above, consideration will be given to offering fully Chinese-taught classes).

3. Each program must have a minimum of 16 participants.


Application Process

1. Students shall fill out the attached application form and submit it along with a scanned copy of the first page of passport to the program coordinator for approval;

2. Upon receiving the group application materials sent to the designated email by the program coordinator, Shanghai Business School will confirm the application within 3 working days via email;

3. Within 10 working days after receiving the Acceptance Letter, the program coordinator must transfer the tuition fee to the account designated by Shanghai Business School;

4. The program coordinator will organize overseas students to apply for corresponding Chinese visas; 

Deadline for application: The application information should be submitted at least two months prior to the start of the program.


Program Fees and Payment Information

● Registration fee: 300 yuan/person

● Tuition fee: Please refer to the following fee schedule.

 

Option A:

16 students: RMB 6,000 per person

20 students: RMB 5,200 per person

32 students: RMB 4,100 per person

 

Option B:

16 students: RMB 4,500 per person

20 students: RMB 3,500 per person

32 students: RMB 2,500 per person

 

Option A: Including tuition fees, course material fees, accommodation fees (standard double room on campus), transportation fees for off-campus visits and excursions (excluding free time activities), insurance fees (basic accident insurance service during the project period in Shanghai only), fees for activities and visits included in the course, and airport shuttle fees; Program fees do not include international travel airfare, visa fees, and other personal expenses. Moreover, applicants are responsible for arranging their own meals during the project period.

 

Option B: Applicants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation and covering the accommodation expenses. The transportation fee only covers collective off-campus visits and excursions. The remaining charges are the same as those in Option A.

 

Please note:

1. Each session of the program requires a minimum of 16 participants. If the number of participants is less than 16, the fee will still be calculated based on a minimum group size of 16. For groups exceeding 16 people, each participant will be charged according to the actual per capita rate. 

2. For every group of 16 students, related activities and accommodation fees for one accompanying teacher will be exempted. 

3. During the project period, the availability of on-campus accommodation will depend on the capacity of the school. In case of limited housing resources, applicants will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation.

4. The cost may be adjusted based on the actual implementation of each project.

5. Once the registration fee is paid, it is non-refundable.
